"The idea to be communicated is that each child’s drawing or musical performance is acceptable because it reflects their attempt to create something of beauty."
"The combined use of hands and imagination makes an important contribution to what it means “to know” something. You cannot learn to play tennis by reading a book."
"if American teachers devoted one hour each day to art or music, or even one hour two days a week, the proportion of youth who dropped out of high school might be reduced."
"When a child gets an A on a math test, the immediate benefit is to the child alone. But when the child creates a drawing, she makes something for the pleasure of others as well."
"Most school work is solitary, but when a band is congratulated for a performance it is the band as a whole that receives the compliment, not the individual child.... Morality and concern for others grows, in part, from understanding what it means to have a common fate."

"Making music involves more than the voice or fingers playing an instrument; a child learning about music has to tap into multiple skill sets, often simultaneously. For instance, people use their ears and eyes, as well as large and small muscles"

All signs and studies have proven the benefits of music; therefore, it is our job as teachers to start bringing music back into the classroom so our students get EVERYTHING they need in the classroom, not just reading and math.
